New plugin: WP Event Ticketing
Posted on November 3, 2010
As we were gearing up to organize WordCamp Las Vegas 2010, we wanted to move the management of the ticket ordering process in-house. One of the main reasons being we didn’t want to pay a third party site to handle the ticket sales for the event since they charge per ticket. Sure, we could have passed the cost on to the ticket buyer, but that’s just not how we roll! Instead, we got to work building a WordPress plugin; WP Event Ticketing.
If you are the impatient type, you can download WP Event Ticketing and try it out, or read on for a list of features and screenshots.
WP Event Ticketing Features
- Real-time payments via Papal
- Multiple ticket types. (For example, basic ticket includes entry only, gold ticket includes entry plus a shirt.)
- Ticket packages that can include multiple tickets. (Useful for offering registration to sponsors.)
- Set your event’s maximum attendance
- Choose what data you want to collect from attendees
- Limit quantity of each type of ticket packages to sell
- Display/hide # of tickets remaining on registration page
- Create single or multiple use coupons
- Create flat-rate or percentage based coupons
- Send email notification to all registered attendees
- Export attendee list to CSV
- Manually create a ticket for an attendee
- Ticket and revenue reporting
- Summary reports show counts by data collected. (for example, display a list of t-shirt sizes and how many of each you need to order)

We are currently hard at work on Event Ticketing Pro. We have a ton of features planned for the pro version! You aren’t going to want to miss it. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when the pro version is released.
ooo ooo! Luverly! Ty chaps!
I literally just purchased a premium WordPress plugin in to do this and it is not that great. Okay it is pretty hooky. So disappointed I did not have this news two weeks ago. Can't wait to use this on my next event!
Timing has never really been our strong suit. :) Give the plugin a test drive and let us know what you think!
Good effort... you seem to have hard-coded the currency - or is it just me? I'm looking for an EventBrite replacementm so having more than one event would be good as well, although that is get-roundable by having one ticket per event. But then you need (or I need) multiple ticket types for those ticket types, if you follow. I'll keep playing though - like I said, it looks good.
Thanks for checking out the plugin! I think you are right about the hard-coded currency (I'll make a ticket for Todd to solve that). And we couldn't agree more about handling multiple events. Sign up for our newsletter and you'll be the first to find out about the new features as we release them!
I apologize in advance for asking a question which I feel like an idiot for having to ask, but, I've installed and activated the plug in, and I cannot figure out where to go next in order to configure it. I've looked in settings. I've checkout out the full sidebar. Can't find it. Could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Hello - I have installed your plugin, activated it, and read the readme file. Step #3 says "Set up Your Ticket Options". Where do I do this? I can't find it anywhere. I'm running Thesis on WP 3.0.1.
Stacey, Once you activate the plugin, in your WordPress dashboard should be a menu item called "Tickets". Once you click tickets, it'll expand to show several new links. Ticket Options is one of those pages.
Thanks for your response. I cannot find a "Tickets" menu item. I'm happy to provide screenshots if you can tell me where to send them. Or, if you could be more specific as to exactly where the menu item appears on the dashboard, I'll check there. I had the guy who built the site look for me also, and he couldn't find it either.
I've sent you an email so you can respond directly.
Hello - I'm having the same issue as Stacey. I've actived the plugin but do not see the "Tickets" menu item. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sumaiya - If you'll head over to the support forums, and make a post, we'll get you taken care of. http://support.wpeventticketing.com/
This looks like a very promising plugin. Great job 9seeds team.
Word... happy to try it on WCphx next go around :) Or I'm involved with other stuff it can be used for too. Thx crew
It is contributions like this one that demonstrate what's great about the world of WordPress. I installed the plugin and configured one (1) ticket type and three (3) packages, each of which includes the ticket type. I configured my PayPal settings, too. I pasted the shortcode into a new "Tickets on sale Now" page and some of the ticket-purchase elements are displayed, but not all of them. See the page: http://98.130.4.17/tickets/ It looks like I need to tell the plugin which package(s) to include when the information displays. If that is the case, could you tell me where to do that? I don't see any options for defining which package(s) are displayed. Thank you!
Hey Ryan, by the time I responded, you had obviously figured out the issue. When you create a package, the availability dates need to to be set in order for them to show up on the purchase page.
Thanks so much for this plugin, it rocks! I'm planning to use it to organise a conference for approximately 200 people, and I have a couple of feature requests specific to my circumstances: Would you be able to create an option where users can fill in their details BEFORE they pay, and also allow people to register for the event without paying? What's most important for me is getting registrations, and I want to give people the option of paying later, or paying in cash.
Great plugin, thanks for that! I featured it on my blog, hope you don't mind :-)
Hi. Great plugin, though I'm having a few problems testing. I allowed one 'coupon' ie free ticket. I entered my code, but was provided with 4 ticket links, all of which worked, and then received the 4 links via email? Also, how do I test the paypal functionality without actually charging to paypal?
I'm not sure what happened with the coupon allowing 4 tickets to be sent. I'll double check that on this side and see if I can replicate it. It's possible that it was a cache issue and you may want to clear your cached and run a test from end to end. As for Paypal, you can set up a sandbox account at Paypal for testing. Though, it may be easier to set a ticket price of $1.00 and just run an actual test. For as nice as it is to be able to pay with Paypal, their tools and documentation aren't the best.
Does the plugin support multiple events
Bec, this version of the event ticketing plugin is set up to run one event at a time. We are working on a pro version of the plugin that will include the ability to handle multiple events, multiple payment gateways and several other new features. Currently looking like a late February, early March release.
When the pro version releases, will we be able to update the basic plugin to the pro version?
We will definitely be including a basic-to-pro conversion option
Thanks - an amazing plugin already. Would definitely by the Pro version! Thanks, Dan.
So this is a free plug in? No cost to us or customer/ This is awesome! As soon as I get our site upgraded to wordpress.org I want to try it out. Do you have any screenshots of the tickets?
Yep, the plugin is free. The ticket plugin doesn't create printable tickets (at this time). It's something we may add in at a later time, though.
does this support a will call option where someone can register for a ticket and then pick it up at a later date with cash or check?
no, it doesn't support a will-call option. Although, if somebody pays you with cash or check, you can add them in as an attendee via the admin manually.
Thank you very much!:Our Non Profit organisation has been using your plug-in for a couple of years now and it has become very popular. Simple to use, easy to configure and simple to understand for our clients. Just a suggestion: it would be really helpful if we could just display certain package types on different pages rather than all the tickets in one spot? The reason for this is that we sell memberships to our society as well as tickets to public events. Is there a short code available to just display a chosen package type? Once again, thank you for your effort! Kindest regards, Courtney Edmonds W C. Daldy Preservation Society
